Thalia Assuras was born in London, Ontario, to parents who moved from Tripoli, Greece, after World War II. She attended London Central Secondary School and later pursued a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Western Ontario.

Thalia graduated in 1980 and went on to complete her master’s degree in journalism in 1981. Reflecting on her time at the university, she expressed how it transformed her life, bringing her passion for writing and knowledge together.

Thalia’s career in journalism took off with roles at CITY-TV and Global Television. She worked as a reporter and weekend anchor for CityPulse from 1985 to 1988, and later became the evening anchor at Global TV in 1989.

She continued to make her mark by anchoring Canada AM for CTV from 1992 to 1993. Thalia’s big break came when she joined ABC in May 1993 as co-anchor of World News Now and ABC World News This Morning. She made several notable co-anchors before leaving ABC in January 1997.

Moving to CBS in 1997, Thalia anchored the CBS Morning News and The Saturday Early Show. Her desire to live in a different country and work with top-notch resources drove her move to the United States. After a successful run at CBS, she later anchored energyNOW! on WJLA-TV and Bloomberg Television.

Additionally, Thalia set up a consulting practice focusing on strategic planning, media relations, crisis management, media training, and executive coaching.

Beyond her professional achievements, Thalia is a founding member of The Next Generation Initiative, a program that encourages student involvement in public affairs. Her outstanding contributions have been recognized with awards such as the “2000 Salute to Women” by The Daughters of Penelope and the Marie Torre Memorial Award in 2001.
