E. Martin Estrada, an American lawyer, has been serving as the United States attorney for the Central District of California since September 2022.

Estrada’s family moved from Guatemala, and he grew up in Costa Mesa. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Irvine, with honors, in 1998. Later, he earned his Juris Doctor with distinction from Stanford Law School in 2002.

After law school, Estrada worked as a law clerk for two distinguished judges, Judge Robert Timlin and Judge Arthur Alarcón. Subsequently, he served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California from 2007 to 2014. In 2014, he became a partner at Munger, Tolles & Olson, where he had previously been an associate from 2004 to 2007.

As an attorney, he notably represented Plains All American Pipeline in the Refugio oil spill case, resulting in a $230 million settlement. He also gained experience in immigration and education cases, successfully advocating for improved education for Latino and Native American students in New Mexico.

U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California In June 2022, President Joe Biden nominated Estrada for the position of United States attorney for the Central District of California. His nomination received support from Senator Alex Padilla.

The Senate Judiciary Committee reported his nomination favorably in a voice vote on July 28, 2022. On September 13, 2022, the United States Senate confirmed his nomination by voice vote, and he was sworn in on September 19, 2022, by Chief Judge Philip S. Gutierrez.
