On the 23rd of November, 2021, Kenneth L. Parker was officially sworn in as the 45th United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio.

Nominated by President Joseph Biden on September 28th, 2021, Parker’s confirmation received unanimous approval from the United States Senate on November 19th, 2021.

Parker’s journey within the legal field began in 1999 when he was appointed as an Assistant United States Attorney, designated to the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Division of the Office.

His dedication and expertise led to him being named the District’s Criminal Chief, a role he fulfilled from 2011 through 2019.

Before his tenure as Criminal Chief, Parker held the position of Chief of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force from 2010 to 2011.

Beyond these roles, he served as a judicial law clerk for the late Honorable S. Arthur Spiegel at the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.

Additionally, Parker contributed as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Law.

Hailing from Cincinnati, Ohio, Parker’s educational background includes a graduation from Tuskegee University in 1994 and the attainment of his law degree from Indiana University School of Law (Bloomington) in 1997.

As the United States Attorney, Parker assumes the crucial responsibility of being the chief federal law enforcement officer for the Southern District of Ohio, a jurisdiction encompassing over five million residents across 48 of Ohio’s 88 counties.

Parker’s oversight extends to the investigation and litigation of criminal and civil cases on behalf of the United States within the Southern District of Ohio.

Additionally, he oversees matters requiring defense on behalf of the nation.

Leading an office consisting of around 65 Assistant United States Attorneys and approximately 60 support staff members, Parker guides the activities of three offices located in Cincinnati, Dayton, and Columbus.

The spectrum of cases he supervises encompasses various violations, including those involving narcotics, public corruption, civil rights, financial crimes, cybercrime, firearms and gun violence, healthcare fraud, child exploitation, national security threats, immigration issues, human trafficking, and tax crimes.

Parker’s contributions to the legal community are commendable, having served as the president of the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky Chapter of the Federal Bar Association and the Black Lawyers Association of Cincinnati.

Notably, he also played a role in the Summer Work Experience in Law program (SWEL), eventually serving as Chair of its Board.

SWEL, aimed at increasing African American representation within the legal profession, expanded under Parker’s guidance from Cincinnati to the cities of Hamilton, Dayton, and Columbus, Ohio, as well as Louisville, Kentucky.
