Jill E. Steinberg is an American lawyer who currently serves as the United States attorney for the Southern District of Georgia since February 2023.

Steinberg earned her Bachelor of Arts degree with top honors (summa cum laude) from the University of Georgia in 1995. Later, in 1998, she achieved a Juris Doctor degree from Duke University Law School.

Steinberg’s legal journey began as an assistant district attorney for the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office from 1998 to 2001. After that, she worked as an associate at Rogers & Hardin LLP in Atlanta, Georgia, from 2001 to 2008.

She then served as an assistant United States attorney in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia, with two separate stints from 2008 to 2014 and 2016 to 2021.

Additionally, she worked at the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., from 2014 to 2016, where she held roles as an associate deputy attorney general and an attorney advisor in the National Security Division. In 2021, she became a partner at Ballard Spahr LLP.

On October 19, 2022, President Joe Biden announced his intention to nominate Steinberg as the United States attorney for the Southern District of Georgia.

Her nomination was sent to the Senate on November 14, 2022. However, on January 3, 2023, her nomination was returned to the President under Rule XXXI, Paragraph 6 of the United States Senate. She was renominated on January 23, 2023.

She is married to David Steinberg, a former federal prosecutor and a partner at the law firm of Latham & Watkins.

After going through the Senate Judiciary Committee, her nomination was confirmed by the United States Senate on February 16, 2023, through a voice vote.

Subsequently, she was sworn in as the United States attorney on February 22, 2023, by District Court Chief Judge James Randal Hall.
