Delia L. Smith is an American lawyer who has been serving as the United States attorney for the District Court of the Virgin Islands since May 2022.

Smith earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of the Virgin Islands in 1993. Later, in 1997, she completed her Juris Doctor degree from the Texas Southern University School of Law.

Smith began her career as a law clerk for Judge Ishmael Meyers at the United States Virgin Islands Superior Court, where she worked from 1997 to 1999. From 1999 to 2005, she held the position of assistant attorney general in the Office of the Attorney General for the Virgin Islands.

Between 2012 and 2014, she gained experience as a trial attorney in the United States Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs. Since 2005, she has been an Assistant United States Attorney for the United States Attorney’s office for the District of the Virgin Islands.

U.S. Attorney Role President Joe Biden nominated Delia L. Smith to become the United States attorney for the District Court of the Virgin Islands on September 28, 2021.

Delegate Stacey Plaskett recommended her to the White House, and Governor Albert Bryan Jr. also supported her nomination. After committee approval on February 10, 2022, her nomination was confirmed by the Senate on April 27, 2022. As a result, she officially began her role in May 2022.
